TWO new mobility scooters have been added to Daventry Shopmobility thanks to a councillor’s grant.
Cllr Chris Long handed over £931 to Shopmobility in New Street, which is run by DACT (Daventry Area Community Transport).
Throughout 2011 and 2012, Cllr Long worked with DACT and the Daventry Express to collect signatures and deliver a petition to Northamptonshire County Council which led to the securing of DACT’s funding for 2012/13.
With the need for two further scooters for Shopmobility identified, Chris has stepped forward and offered money from his empowering councillors fund to buy the new devices.
Cllr Long said: “Most able-bodied members of the community take their mobility for granted. For others less fortunate in this respect Shopmobility and its products can be life changers.
“In these tough economic times raising funds to maintain Shopmobility’s services and purchase new scooters is not easy. If my empowering councillors funds can make some of our local residents’ lives easier than I am pleased to be able to assist.”
