Volunteers from a host of Daventry groups and organisations helped load up a 40 ft container with cargo headed to Africa.
Items included hospital equipment, sports equipment for schools, tools, water filters, and many other things, which are now on their way to Iganga in Uganda, via the port of Mombassa. The Daventry Friends of Iganga will send members out to Africa in March to oversee the distribution and use of the items.
Jude Eddon, from the Friends, said: “Several local organisations, including members of the fire brigade and Daventry Rugby Club, offered to help pack the container but our thanks must go to the Daventry Volunteer Centre without whose tireless and enthusiastic help we would still be packing.
Mukasa Nasser, one of the orphans who the Friends supported through school and university, wrote on Facebook: “This sounds good news to the people of Iganga as many will benefit. Thanks to all friends, donors and supporters who have made it happen.”
