Getting ready for new school leaving rules

TEENAGERS will have to stay in education or training for another two years due to new Government rules.

The age to which all young people in England must continue in education or training will increase to the end of the academic year in which they turn 17 from 2013 and until their 18th birthday from 2015.

Ellen Butler, head of centre for Daventry, Northampton College, said: “The world of post-16 education continues to evolve and change at a rapid rate. Raising the Participation Age (RPA) does not mean young people must stay in school however they must be engaged in education or training. We are already working closely with local schools, colleges, training providers and businesses to improve the education and training opportunities for young people in the county and we are very proud of the great relationships we have.”

Teenagers can chose to remain in full-time education, such as school sixth form or further education college, do work-based learning, such as an apprenticeship, or part-time accredited education or training if employed, self-employed or volunteering.
