And local schools and colleges are being urged to apply for a chance to get the best view of the action.

The popular display by the Parachute Regiment’s Red Devils is part of an annual charity Golf Day and Gala Dinner organised by Midlands-based commercial property firm The Wigley Group.

A host major of sports stars and celebrities will be at the event at the De Vere Staverton Park Golf Club on the edge of Daventry including snooker world champion Mark Selby, sports promoter Barry Hearn and a host of professional darts players such as Steve Beaton and Colin Lloyd.

The action-packed day on Thursday, July 14 will raise money for the Parachute Regiment charity Support Our Paras.

The organisers are now calling for local schools, colleges and youth groups to bid for a chance to go along to the event and get up close as the paratroopers deliver the golf balls to the players in dramatic style – parachuting in from around 16,000 ft.

The Red Devils – made up of regular serving paratroopers who volunteer to serve on the parachute display team – will then explain to the young people about the regiment, the work of the display team and career opportunities in the armed forces.

John Macdonald, TV sports announcer and The Wigley Group charity ambassador – who is also a former paratrooper – said the event serves as a great opportunity for young people to learn about the Parachute Regiment.

“The Red Devils do a fantastic job of raising the profile of the Parachute Regiment and the British Army,” he said.

“Their displays, while impressive, also serve as a great way to meet and engage with the public in support of recruitment – at the moment they carry out 60 displays at public events each year, so it is a great privilege to be able to host them here in Daventry.

“Those chosen will get to experience an unforgettable spectacle, but unfortunately space is limited so we will only be able to accommodate two or three groups so I’d urge anyone interested to register their interest as soon as possible.”

Groups that wish to see the display and meet the Parachute Regiment should contact Krishma Kapoor via email on [email protected] or via phone on 02476 224 600.
