THE A45 south out of Daventry was closed by police on Tuesday for several hours to deal with a major a gas leak.
The A45 was closed between the Landmark roundabout at the entrance to Daventry and the Newnham turn near Dodford from around 11am until after 3pm.
A gas pipe, believed to be around 1 ins in diameter and potentially under high pressure, was broken close to Intapart just by the side of the road.
The fire service, police, and National Grid gas were all called to the scene.
A 200 metre cordon was set up and nearby businesses evacuated.
Fixing the pipe was complicated by the high pressure gas inside.
