Police are holding a Fun Afternoon at Long Buckby Recreational Park on Saturday, August 23 to bring the community together.
Police Community Support Officer Sarah Gray, who is organising the afternoon, said she wants it to become an annual event.
She said: “Long Buckby is the main area that I cover as a PCSO. I wanted to put something on in the village for young people.
“The Fun Afternoon is not for profit – I am encouraging local people to come along and raise money for their own good causes.”
Residents from in and around Long Buckby are invited to the village’s recreation ground, off Station Road, from 1pm to 5pm.
There will be fun for the whole family with stalls, face-painting and a bouncy castle, while Daventry Leisure Centre and Rugby Community sports coaches will be on hand with a penalty shoot out and other sporting activities.
A barbecue offering of burgers and hot dogs will be provided by staff and residents of Long Buckby Children’s Home.
The afternoon will also be a chance for people to learn about local charities including Brushes and Spades while Northamptonshire Police will be holding a special constable recruitment stand.
Anyone interested in learning first aid can also take part in a short workshop run by the St John Ambulance service.
Northamptonshire Horse Watch will be available to mark tack, for a small fee. Local police will also be on hand to provide tips on how to stay safe and prevent crime this summer.
PCSO Gray said a portion of the proceeds from the event would go to the committee running the recreational park for future improvements.
She said: “The recreational park is very well used. The area used to suffer from antisocial behaviour, but the basket ball court was moved two or three years ago and things improved.”
Last year there was a big fundraising drive to carry out much needed refurbishments on the park.
