More than 1,000 children converged at Woodford Halse Primary School for the annual cross country race.

Pupils from 39 primary schools across Northamptonshire took part in the race which was held on March 13.

It was the 22nd cross country race with more than 1,022 runners aged between seven and 11 taking part.

Headteacher of Woodford Halse Primary School said: “This year’s cross country event was a massive success with nearly 40 Northamptonshire schools attending.

“We decided to change the course this year and this was well received by the children.

“A big thank you to the Red Cross, the Friends of the School Association and the pupils from the Danetre and Southbrook Learning Village for making the event so successful.”

The winners of all the races are divided into eight different categories depending upon the size of the school, age and gender.

The only school in the Daventry district which finished first in any of the races was Badby Primary School. They won the Year Five/Six Boys race for small schools. It is the second year running they havewon the prize.

There were several schools from the Daventry area to take part in the cross country race including Weedon Bec Primary School and Bliss Charity School in Nether Heyford

The other winners were representing schools from outside of the Daventry district.

St Loys Primary School in Weedon Lois, claimed the Year Five/Six girls race overall and small school along with the Year Three/Four girls race for small schools.

Nicholas Hawksmoor Primary School in Towcester, won the Year Three/Four boys race and the Year Five/Six boys race.

Bracken Leas Primary School in Brackley, won the Year Three/Four girls race while Isham Primary School, near Kettering, won the Year Three/Four boys race for small schools.
