Fears of accidents at crossing

The position of a pedestrian crossing on a busy road in Weedon could lead to an increase in accidents according to the parish council.
The reaction comes following an application by Northamptonshire County Council (NCC) to place a traffic light controlled crossing on the A45 near to the crossroads with the A5.
It is part of the planning conditions for the application which will see the Globe Hotel demolished to make way for a Tesco Express which was given approval last year.
In its submission to NCC, the parish council said: “We are pleased that at last there is going to be a signalled pedestrian crossing on the A45.
“We have some concern however that it is to be located close to the traffic lights and two sets of lights in close succession could cause confusion to drivers. We hope that the pedestrian lights will be synchronized with the main traffic lights.
“We hope you are aware that parking on the south side of the A45 is much in demand, and is often chaotic resulting in the bus layby and lines of sight being blocked. This adds to the risk of accidents and the hazards pedestrians have to negotiate on this road.”
People can see the plans at Daventry Library and people can give feedback on the plans until Monday.
