England Legends come to Daventry

A number of former England internationals including World Cup- winning goalkeeper Gordon Banks will be visiting Daventry next month.

A charity football match will pit an England Legends XI against a Daventry Lions XI at Communications Park, the home of Daventry Town Football Club.

This will be followed by an evening with Gordon Banks, with both events taking place on Saturday, June 14.

Both events have been organised by the team at Daventry-based Football for Charity.

The night includes a carvery main meal, a raffle and auction. The legendary goalkeeper will be talking about the triumph in 1966 and his famous save from Pele in the 1970 World Cup, judged by many football fans to be the best save of all time.

Entry to the event is £50 or a VIP ticket is £70. It starts at 7pm.

Former England internationals playing in the team include Phil Neal, Alan Kennedy, Des Walker, Andy Sinton, Darren Anderton, Lee Hendrie and Darius Vassell.

Former Liverpool player Neal played 50 times for England between 1976 and 1983, with team mate Kennedy getting two England caps in 1984.

Walker, who used to play for Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday, lined up 59 teams for the national side and played at the 1990 World Cup.

Sinton earned 12 caps between 1991 and 1993, while Tottenham’s Anderton earned 30 caps between 1994 and 2001 and played at both Euro 96 and the World Cup in 1998.

Former Daventry Town player Hendrie has appeared once for England while former Aston Villa striker Vassell played 22 times and scored six goals for his country. He also appeared at the 2002 World Cup and 2004 European Championships.

Entrance is £5 for adults, £3 for children.

There are VIP tickets for the game costing £30 to include food and the chance to meet the England players. There will also be bouncy castles, bungee run and various activities which can be bought at a cost of £5.

The football club is also screening England’s first World Cup game against Italy at 11pm.
