Delight over progress at Parker E-Act Academy

A Daventry academy has been praised for the positive progress it is making since being placed in special measures by Ofsted inspectors.

The Parker E-ACT Academy in Ashby Road was given the lowest ranking of ‘inadequate’ by Ofsted following an inspection in January this year.

But the first report based on regular monitoring visits that will be carried out until the school comes out of special measures has recognised that improvements are already being made.

Andrew Mackereth, who became the school’s new principal this week, said: “We saw a draft of the report about two weeks ago and it has been very difficult not to get the bunting out and share the good news.

“When the report praises the leadership team here that is Dame Marcia Twelftree, executive principal Nabil Chaaban and the outgoing principal Krysia Butwilowska because they have helped give this school the framework to be able to achieve this.”

Dame Marcia Twelftree, chair of governors, added: “I have seen a lot of schools out of special measures and this school is the most improved after the first inspection.

“We are all absolutely delighted.”

There are now long-term plans in place to move the academy out of special measures and the leadership team is confident it will happen sooner rather than later.

Dame Marcia added: “When we were talking to Ofsted about the changes, we are looking to come out of special measures within a year and the inspector did not seem to disagree with that.”

Mr Mackereth added: “Taking a school out of special measures within the first 12 months is going to be a tall order but I am driving everyone in the organisation to achieve that.”

The report stated: “The executive principal and principal, supported by the interim executive board (IEB) and the sponsor, have responded rapidly to the issues raised in the inspection report.

“As a result, the post-Ofsted action plan clearly identifies challenging targets, broken down into regular milestones, against which others can hold leaders to account. Governors are rigorous in their approach to monitoring.

“Leaders have taken rapid action to install a fit-for-purpose, academy-wide, data system to track students’ progress and staff have been trained on its use.”
