Daventry’s domestic abuse reduction pilot scheme a success
Incidents of domestic abuse in the Daventry and South Northamptonshire area have reduced by more than nine per cent during the last year.
The Community Safety Partnership (CSP) in Daventry and South Northamptonshire, together with Northamptonshire Police, established a district-wide initiative called the Domestic Abuse Forum (DAF).
Around 30 per cent of violent crime is attributed to domestic incidents and the forum has worked hard to reduce the number of such incidents reported to the police.
The forum – made up of members of the police, the CSP, Women’s Aid and Aquarius – meets fortnightly and individual support and intervention is given to people to help reduce the risk of domestic abuse.
In addition, all low-risk domestic incidents are followed up a few days later by a local officer who signposts both victims and perpetrators to support courses offered by the DAF.
A total of 25 cases have been reduced from low risk to medium risk through greater intervention.
The DAF’s success has been welcomed by Detective Chief Inspector Steve Lingley, the force lead on protecting vulnerable people.
He said: “The Daventry and South Northamptonshire pilot demonstrates what can be achieved when bringing partners together to share information and it has delivered some good outcomes.
“I am considering how we can learn from this good practice and how this can best be adopted countywide.”
