A Daventry woman who appeared with her dog on a TV show said it was one of the best decisions she ever made.
Nikki Kirk, 46, from Wordsworth Road, appeared on Wednesday on Channel 4’s Superstar Dogs: Countdown to Crufts hosted by John Barrowman.
She saw her border collie Smokie take on numerous challenges while the dog has also become a star after being featured in the press photographs with the Doctor Who star.
Mrs Kirk said: “A friend of mine had a flier from the production company asking if people wanted to be involved. They passed it on to me and I got the devil inside me and decided to apply.
“I got called for the audition and it went okay. I didn’t expect to hear anything because I thought it just went okay.
“I got a phone call out of the blue asking me to come in again and from there I got told I was going on the show.”
Mrs Kirk, who spends most of her time on a canal boat, said she enjoyed filming the programme which she thinks might have given her an advantage.
She said: “It is a challenge doing the training when you are on a houseboat. Although it probably gave me an advantage when I did the swim and fetch round. It was a lot of hard work to train Smokie but she did really well and I am very proud of her.
“I was expecting that it would be nervous but the whole atmosphere appearing on the show was fantastic. All of the people who worked on the show really put me at my ease.
“I was very jealous of Smokie, he got to cuddle John Barrowman in all of the photos. But he was absolutely lovely. A real laugh.
“I don’t know if there is going to be a second series of the show but if there is I’d certainly say people should apply, it was a lot of fun and I’m very pleased I did it.”
