Daventry ambulance station to be bought by fire service?

TALKS for Daventry’s ambulance station to be sold to the neighbouring fire service are underway, it is understood.

East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) has put forward plans to close the Staverton Road ambulance station, along with most of the others it runs, with cover for the Daventry area to be provided from a new hub in Northampton.

The proposals are still subject to a public consultation which only began on September 17 and runs until December.

But sources from inside both the ambulance and fire service say an offer is already on the table for Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service to buy the site, possibly to turn it into a control room for the region.

While no decision has been made, the EMAS is encouraging feedback from people.

EMAS commercial director Andrew Spice said: “We have invited people to share their views and comments on our Being the Best proposals. Included in the feedback received are expressions of interest in some of the land we own.

“Clearly that land is not for sale as we are consulting on proposals – a final decision has not been made. The expressions of interest have been stored with the rest of the feedback received.

“All feedback will be considered before a decision is made at our January 2013 Trust Board.

“I encourage everyone to study the information we have provided as part of the public consultation exercise, and when they are in possession of the facts, to take a view on our proposals.”
