Couple from the Daventry area injured by runaway horse at Hollowell Steam Rally

A COUPLE in their 60s from Daventry were among those injured after a horse bolted at the Hollowell Steam Rally on Saturday.

Police said they believe the horse, which was in the display arena, bolted after it was stung by an insect on its genitals.

The horse broke free from its tether and then broke through a fence into the spectator area causing injuries to some spectators before it was brought back under control.

A total of five people were injured, including two married couples.

A husband and wife, aged in their 60s and from the Daventry area, both suffered two broken ribs each and one of the couple had a broken collarbone, although police were on Sunday unable to confirm which one.

As of Sunday evening, the man was still at Northampton General Hospital, where he and his wife were taken shortly after 3pm. She has been discharged.

A woman from a nearby village suffered multiple breaks of a leg as well as cuts and was also taken to NGH.

And a couple from Leicester suffered superficial injuries and were allowed to go home after treatment at the scene.
