Council plugs into charge point

A CHARGE point for electric vehicles has been backed by Daventry district councillors.

DDC’s strategy group recommended installing an electic point on the Lodge Road car park when they met last Thursday.

Cllr Daniel Cribbin, environmental portfolio holder, said: “We are getting 100 per cent of the funding for this from outside of the council.

“If it proves successful, we are hoping to wheel this out to other car parks across the district in future.”

Funding for the £7,200 project is being sought from Cenex, which is administering the Government’s Plugged In Places scheme in the Midlands, and proposed sponsorship from Great Central Plastics in Woodford Halse.

The national scheme is to encourage more drivers to switch to electric vehicles.

The decision was part of the council’s plans to deal with projects funded by outside bodies, and will now go to full council for a final decision.
