Council gives the go-ahead for village school expansion
A VILLAGE school will be expanded following a decision made by Northamptonshire County Council.
The authority’s cabinet meeting held on Tuesday last week agreed to the expansion of Weedon Bec Primary School which will lead to pupil numbers increasing from 210 to 266. The building work will involve constructing three new classrooms.
Countywide it wants to create an extra 1,800 primary school places. Currently there are 3,570 primary school places, but the council wants to provide 5,470 places by September 2013.
In the letter Christopher Horton, the governors’ representative on the buildings, health and safety committee, said: “We are pleased to have the opportunity to expand the school in line with the growth and demographic of Weedon and its local community.”
The scheme will see 11 schools across the county expanded. None of the other schools in the Daventry area are due to be expanded.
