NEARLY £1,000 was raised with a charity collection at Tesco in Daventry.

Sandra Coleman collected £919.78 on November 22 and 23 at the New Street store.

Mrs Coleman lost her eight-year-old nephew to leukaemia, and is now reliving the grief after a four-year-old family friend’s similar recent diagnosis.

Mrs Coleman, 56, wants to raise £10,000 for the Rainbows Children’s Hospice in Leicester who have supported her family.

She will be taking part in the Rainbow Trail next April as part of her fundraising campaign.

She is also running a raffle to be drawn on Sunday at the Lock Gate Cafe, at Whilton Locks. Tickets are still available at various places including the cafe, and the Daventry Express offices in High Street.

Eventually she says she wants to get a children’s hospice built in Daventry.

She said: “I want to say thank you for the generosity of all the local people who donated at Tesco.

“Also thank you to Graham the store manager and all the staff for being so hospitable.
