A popular coffee shop in Daventry is set to expand into a much bigger Bowen Square unit.
A change of use application has been submitted to Daventry District Council (DDC) which, if approved, would see Costa Coffee move into the unit occupied by Blockbuster before the shop closed in November last year.
The application is to change from class A1, retail use, to class A1/A3 for coffee shop and takeaway.
A similar application has been submitted for the Costa unit to be turned into a shop.
Both of these plans have been submitted by Central Coffee Limited, based in Kenilworth, which runs Costa Coffee in the town. In a letter sent to DDC, the operations director Nigel Foster outlined that customers had wanted the store to be bigger.
One comment said they wished there was more than one toilet and that the space to sit is very limited.
The letter stated: “We think the people of Daventry deserve the additional seating space and extra toilet they have asked for.
“The new lease will provide an additional 30 per cent floor space.
“This will enable us to increase the internal covers by 50 per cent and double the external, whilst increasing the space around each table and doubling the toilet facilities.
“Based on our seven-and-a-half year’s trading record in Daventry, we are confident that the new and larger unit will be an even better location for Costa and will allow us to improve the service we provide to our customers from in and around Daventry.”
DDC is set to determine both of the change of use applications in the near future.
