A COMMUNITY choir set up in Long Buckby has its first concert on Saturday.

Elation Community Voices was set up in August when its founders expected to develop it gradually from small beginnings, but almost instantly were approached by people wishing to get involved.

The concert is on Saturday at 7.30pm in Long Buckby Baptist Church.

Choir chairman,Vince Collins, said: “Six of us were in a choir in Rushden because there wasn’t anywhere nearby, but it became a bit of a drag to travel that far and we thought it would be great to set up something here.

“We had a stand at the Long Buckby Feast event and 100 people showed an interest. We then had an open day at the Baptist church and amazingly 100 people attended that.

“Now 80 to 90 people turn up to rehearsals every week and tickets have almost sold out for our first concert!

“The beauty of the choir is the community element – it brings people together. I used to know people in the village by sight and I now know them by name.

“Our musical director, Nathan Toseland, minister at the baptist church, has been an asset to us.

“He is a great musical director and we are very grateful for his help.”
