Charity gig remembers teen

A HUGE £800 was raised at a benefit gig on Saturday in memory of a local teenager.

The third annual benefit was held at the Nether Heyford village hall remembering Mark Tanton who died aged 14 from a rare strain of meningitis in September 2010.

Over 100 people turned out to see the punk and metal bands including headline band Behind Closed Doors with whom Mark played bass as one of the founding members. Money raised from the night went into Mark’s tribute fund which has collected £28,000 over two years for Meningitis UK.

Mark’s father John Tanton said of the gig: “It is important to us to know that Mark is still cared for by his friends.”

Auction items such as a shirt signed by the Northampton Saints helped to raise the money on the night.
