Car wash in Daventry to raise money for bus shelter improvements

The event, at Daventry Town Football Club in Brown’s Road from 2pm to 6pm on Wednesday July 27, will also feature home-made cakes and lemonade, face painting, a ‘name the teddy’ competition and much more.

It has been organised by Brighter Daventry, a group of 15 to 16-year-olds from the Daventry area who are taking part in the National Citizen Service (NCS).

In order to complete the service the 16-strong group needs to carry out a project which helps the community and, after seeking views from Daventry residents, have decided to brighten up two bus shelters in the town.

Having successfully pitched their idea to Daventry District Council, the group will be painting two bus shelters on Braunston Road and Admiral’s Way.

The work is likely to take place in early August, with the Council providing support, equipment and advice to ensure the work is carried out safely.

Team leader Nicol Jalowiecka (16) said: “We wanted to take on a project that would make the community happy and after speaking to people in the town they said that making the bus shelters brighter would do that. We are planning a really bright design with blue skies, white clouds and rainbows, so hopefully it’s the sort of thing that will make people smile.

“The car wash will help us raise money for the project so please come along and help us improve the community by getting your car washed while you enjoy some home-made cakes and a glass of lemonade. Any money left over once the project is complete will go to charity, so it’s all for a good cause.”

Councillor Alan Hills, portfolio holder for community, culture and leisure at Daventry District Council, said: “It’s great to see young people working so hard to put something back into our community. We’re very pleased to be working with Brighter Daventry on this project and I look forward to seeing the end result.”
