YEAR 8 pupils at Campion School in Bugbrooke took part in a global relay race on Tuesday, October 16.

The Save the Children World Marathon Challenge saw a team of 30 Campion pupils race against 300 other teams across the world.

The pupils took turns running 200-metre sections of a full marathon distance of 26.2 miles.

Campion school ran the distance in 2 hours, 8 minutes and 40 seconds ranking them 48th in the world. The winning school was one in Kenya with a time of 1 hour and 57 minutes.

PE teacher and event coordinator, David Barrick, said: “The pupils really enjoyed it and, given the really blustery weather conditions their time was pretty good.

“There were times in the race when the wind was so strong the pupils were almost running backwards!”

The students found sponsorship for the run and have until half-term to collect the money.

Mr Barrick added: “It was a great challenge to make the children aware of things going on around the world and was an opportunity to raise that little bit of money for a worthy cause.”
