A BUTCHER from Spratton presented his award-winning Diamond Pie to The Queen on her recent Diamond Jubilee tour of the East Midlands.
Chris Saul, of Sauls of Spratton was among a number of county producers representing the Made In Northamptonshire group who were displaying their wares at Burghley House.
He was chosen to perform the honour after his aptly-named pie was awarded runner-up in the best local product category of the Carlsberg UK Northamptonshire Food and Drink Awards 2011/12.
Mr Saul said: “I still can’t quite get over the fact that I was given such a privileged task but I suppose it was the perfect gift for Her Majesty.
“I told the Queen that I was presenting it on behalf of the people of Northamptonshire and she smiled and asked me where it was made, so I told her about our shop in Spratton.
“Beyond that it’s all a bit of a blur, but if I died tomorrow, I would die a happy man.”
Also present in the Made In Northamptonshire marquee were Nobby’s Brewery from Guilsborough, winemakers Fleurfields from Brixworth and Hoggleys Brewery from Litchborough.
