THE Great Britain sprint canoe squad has been training in the pool at Daventry Leisure Centre.
The five canoeists, which includes Ritchie Jeffries who competed at London 2012, are using the pool to help develop technique, stability and balance in a warmer environment duuring the winter months. The team is coached by David, Andy and Steve Train and the leisure centre was pleased to help out the athletes.
Luke Parratt, contract manager for Everyone Active which runs Daventry Leisure Centre commented: “We are delighted to be hosting both current and future Olympians in the pool at Daventry.
“It’s very unusual for us to have canoes in the pool but is great that we are able to offer this service to the GB sprint canoe squad to help their training in the winter.
“This underlines both Everyone Active’s and Daventry District Council’s commitment to maintaining the Olympic legacy in the area.”
The squad, including Chris Calvert, James Styan, Ryan Hunt and Johnny Jones, will be back at the pool on Saturday January 26.
