The pupils at Weedon Bec Primary School received a visit from a Great British boxer on Friday, March 7.
Chantelle Cameron, who is currently training ahead of the 2016 Olympic Games to be held in Rio De Janiero in Brazil, visited to hand out certificates to some of the school’s top achievers.
Headteacher Antony Witheyman said: “Every week we hold an assembly for the pupils who have done something really exceptional that week. It is not every day that we have someone like Chantelle handing them out so it was a real honour for the pupils to get their certificates from her.”
There was a total of 20 youngsters who received certificates from her.
The Northampton boxer joined the GB Boxing women’s squad in 2011 after a whirlwind start to her boxing career that saw her go from novice to potential Olympian in less than 18 months. She was originally an international kickboxer but tried boxing to improve her hand speed.
Chantelle was rewarded with a place in the GB Boxing squad after being spotted by Great Britain’s performance director Rob McCracken in the 60kg Olympic weight category and the chance to stake a claim to go to Rio 2016.
