BELLRINGERS from Daventry won a regional competition held on Saturaday.

Bellringers from across the Peterborough Diocese met at Oakham for a competition to see which team could ring most accurate rhythm.

The Peterborough Diocesan Guild of Church Bellringers covers Northamptonshire, Rutland and Peterborough.

Six branches sent teams along to the event, including Daventry district.

An experienced judge listened to a test piece of 160 changes rung by each team and counted any blemishes from the regular rhythm.

Judges Matthew Jones and Emma Chapman from Nottingham announced the results after tea in the parish hall.

The winner was Daventry Branch with 27 faults and received the Harry Wooding Trophy.

The trophy was donated to the guild in 1986 for this competition and comprises a model of a bell in a wooden frame in a display case.

The runner-up was the Kettering Branch team with 35 faults.
