Barrier proposed on Daventry estate road
RESIDENTS on the Timken and Headlands estates are being asked for their views on proposals for a ‘tank trap’ mechanism on the road that connects the two.
The mechanism would have the same effect as hydraulic rise and fall barriers controlled by bus operators and which would enable buses free passage between the estates whilst preventing access for any other vehicle.
The proposal is for tank traps to be installed on the access between Taper Way on the Timken Estate and Wordsworth Road on the Headlands.
Northamptonshire County Council is insisting on the installation of the tank trap in order for the adoption of Taper Way to take place by the council.
Installation work is currently scheduled for after Easter with the scheme fully adopted by October 2013.
County Cllr Chris Long said: “I would like to hear the views of interested parties regarding this controversial proposal as quickly as possible to fully represent their interests when talking with County Highways engineers.”
He added that some residents may wish to keep the free passage for ease of access between the estate while others may be concerned for child safety and prefer it is used only by buses.
Cllr Long can be contacted with your views on cLong@daventrydc.gov.uk.
