Awards night for our inspiring volunteers
Dennis Clayton receiving his award
DAVENTRY and District Housing gave out its first community awards
The Star Awards 2012 were created to recognise those who are active in their communities and work to improve the situation for others.
Entrants varied from teenage members of DDH’s youth board and neighbours who lend a helping hand to others, to residents’ associations and large local charity organisations.
Nominations came in from across the Daventry district and were judged by Carella Davies from Daventry Volunteer Centre, James Bryce from the Daventry Express, James Nicholls, from Cummins, Natalie Treadwell from Lovell, Cllr Diana Osborne from DDC, Sue Wray from DDH and DDH board director David Leathley.
Winner of the Evelyn Bristow Volunteer of the Year was Dennis Clayton, from Weedon, who has volunteered with DACT for five years.
He said: “I think this reflects the hard work of all the volunteers at DACT, not just me. I drive buses mostly, but I also do car journeys, I’m on the finance committee and I train drivers, clean buses, plus anything else they want! I enjoy it and DACT really embodies the ‘big society’.”
