A GIANT cigarette spent the day in Daventry trying to encourage people to stop dropping litter in the town.

Mrs Stubbs was out and about on Friday, December 10, to warn people that they face a fine if they drop their cigarette ends on the floor.

Tony Gillet, interim corporate manager for public space at Daventry District Council (DDC), said: “The initiative was a big success and our team gave away around 100 stubbis (pocket ashtrays) to help increase awareness about smoking related litter.

“We would like to remind people that anyone who does not use a stubbi or bin to dispose of their cigarette ends will be issued with a £75 fixed penalty notice.”
