A YOUNG woman from Long Buckby will throw herself out of a plane in fundraising event inspired by her late uncle.

Emma West, from Ashmore in Long Buckby, is planning a skydive on April 23 to raise money for the Lymphoma Association in memory of Peter Dear who died in 2008 from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

She said: “I was really close to my uncle and he was my idol.

“He fell ill and had about a year before he died.

“He just had such a strength and positive attitude throughout everything which was shocking to me knowing what he was going through and I admired him for that.

“His attitude has inspired me to deal with my condition.”

Emma has ME (myalgic encephalopathy) which leaves her suffering random pains.

She said: “I get different type of pain at random in my legs and hands. A day preparing for a skydive and the adrenaline associated probably will cause me problems.

“I’ve always wanted to do something in memory of my uncle and this seems a good way, even if it might cause me problems.”
