The Highways Agency will be starting resurfacing and some reconstruction work on the A5 between the B5385 (Watford) and the A361 (Kilsby), near Daventry in Northamptonshire in February.
The work will also include improvements to the drainage at that location and new road markings.
It is planned to start on Monday 18 February and is expected to be completed in two weeks. Work will be undertaken both during the day and at night to ensure that it is completed as quickly as possible.
During the work, the A5 will be closed between A45 Weedon and A361 Kilsby for through traffic although access for local residents will be arranged. There will be no access onto the A5 from side roads north of B5385 Watford junction. All lay-bys between A45 Weedon to A361 Kilsby will be closed.
A5 traffic will be diverted westwards at Weedon onto the A45 and then north onto the A425 at Daventry. Traffic will then be directed onto the A361 to the A5/A361 Kilsby roundabout. This diversion route will be clearly signposted and will apply in reverse to those travelling in the opposite direction.
A Highways Agency spokesperson said: “This work is necessary to prolong the life of this important road and improve safety for drivers.
“Every effort has been made to ensure that any disruption to drivers and residents is kept to a minimum, so we are working both during the day and at night so that it may be completed as quickly as possible.
“During the work we advise road users to plan their journeys to avoid delays.”
