THE DAVENTRY Express is today launching a campaign to help save a town church from the threat of closure.
The iconic Holy Cross Church needs to raise £129,000 by the end of the year for essential repair work which will cost around £320,000.
English Heritage has put the church on their ‘at risk’ list and offered a major grant of £197,000. But that is dependant on the church raising the rest of the cash. If the funds are not raised it may be forced to close.
The Holy Cross is a Grade I listed building and the only 18th-century town church in the diocese of Peterborough.
And today the Gusher is calling on the people of Daventry to get behind the massive fundraising effort to save what is one of the key landmarks in town.
