A hairdressing student from Daventry will battle it out against 30 of the country’s most highly skilled hairdressers next month.

From November 14 to 16 at the NEC Birmingham, Northampton College student Jodie Bunting will compete in the finals of WorldSkills UK – the UK’s largest skills and careers competition.

If successful in the finals, Jodie could go on to represent the UK in the international heats next year, potentially becoming the world’s most highly skilled stylist.

Jodie, 19 is currently studying her level four diploma in hairdressing at the college’s site in Northampton.

She said: “I am really excited about WorldSkills UK and I am working hard to practice.

“I will be asked to perform a hair up style, a ladies cut and colour and a gents cut and colour. I have been practicing whenever I get an opportunity so that I am the best I can be on the day. I love competing like this – the adrenaline is just amazing. I can’t wait.”

Northampton College deputy principal, John Bexson said, ‘We are very proud of Jodie for getting through to the finals of WorldSkills UK, as the competition is to inspire young people and adults to be ambitious in their pursuit of skills to the highest level. Taking part will enable her to build on her skills, test her knowledge against their peers in industry and showcase their potential to employers. We wish her the best of luck.”
