A STROKE sufferer has generously paid for a new piece of equipment at a town gym.
Merry Huckle suffered a stroke in 1999 and subsequently used the Reach for Health gym, on High March industrial estate, as part of her rehabilitation.
The gym became a charity earlier this year and Mrs Huckle decided to pay for an oximeter, which measures the percentage of oxygen in a person’s blood.
The device gives an early warning that something is wrong and is one of the few that can be used while exercising.
Mrs Huckle said: “I had a mini stroke followed by a major stroke in 1999 and after three months in hospital I was told to just get on with it.
“A couple of years later I started at the gym and kept coming for three years. The gym has been great to me and I wanted to give something back.
“The oximeter is something the gym wanted so I decided to sponsor it.”
