Daventry District Council has given some grant money to DACT

Two community groups have shared nearly £30,000 after funding was given out by Daventry District Council (DDC)

Cold Ashby Playing Fields Association (CAPFA) was awarded £15,000 towards new climbing equipment for a children’s play area, while Daventry Area Community Transport (DACT) has received £14,245 towards the cost of replacing one if its older minibuses.

The groups secured the money after applying to DDC’s capital grants scheme, which is available for organisations needing assistance with capital investment.

DACT, which offers transport solutions for those who cannot access public or private transport, will use its grant towards a new, fully-accessible minibus.

Operations manager at DACT, Tony Doyle, said: “The buses are used for everything from group hire to dial-a-ride to days out and trips allowing disability groups to attend activities so the support given to us by DDC is extremely important.

“It helps DACT to help others with their transport needs.”

The funding for CAPFA has gone towards a project to install modern play equipment, including forts, slides and swings, as well as creating a seating and picnic area.

Colin Ritchie, trustee of CAPFA, said: “We’re really grateful for the support we’ve received from DDC. For us it’s a game changer, it is a grant we really needed.”

DDC has helped more than 40 groups in the 2013/14 financial year through its range of grants schemes supporting capital projects, one-off events and to fund equipment and training.

DDC chief executive Simon Bovey said: “Capital grants such as these not only contribute significantly towards the financial cost of a project, they also give groups a greater chance of levering in additional grants from other funding organisations. The council has various types of funding for voluntary and community initiatives and we would encourage any groups in the district who need financial help or advice to get in touch with us to see if we can help.”

Applications are welcome at any time throughout the year with grants subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
