Two teams of golfers took to the course at Daventry and District Golf Club on Tuesday to battle it out in a charity competition.

Organised by the George Society, the jokingly named ‘Sue Ryder Cup’ saw two teams of 14 players each competing in singles and doubles games in aid of the Friends of Danetre Hospital.

The pink team was captained by Mick Goodman, and the yellows by Paul Cooper. Organiser Adam Cox said: “This is the second year we’ve organised it, and this time it’s bigger and brighter!

“Once the teams are picked and the captains chosen, the colours are allocated. Then the players have to go and buy their ‘uniform’ from local charity shops – keeping the receipts.”

Mick said: “We have breakfast at The George pub, then play the golf, and have a raffle. And this year there’s a raffle on New Year’s Eve too. We’ve had prizes donated from Renaissance, Harpers, Staverton Park, Daventry Golf Club, Asia, plus George Society members have donated too.”
