AN OUTDOOR gym has been officially opened at Daventry Country Park.
Specially invited goups from schools and organisations including Ashby Fields Primary School, William Parker School, Cummins and The Prince’s Trust were the first to try out the new facilities following a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday.
The new £10,000 fitness trail features eight pieces of cardiovascular equipment including a rowing machine, leg press, cross-rider, air walker, body twist and horse rider.
The gym is suitable for use by anyone aged over seven and is completely free to use.
The idea is to provide a facility for everyone, from people heading to the park especially to use the equipment, through to joggers around the reservoir who can make a stop off, or even parents taking their children to the play area.
Cllr Alan Hills, portfolio holder for community, culture and leisure at Daventry District Council, said: “Now the equipment has been officially opened, I would encourage schoolchildren and various members of the community to go along and see what a fantastic new free facility they have at the park.”
The gym equipment has been paid for with money from a cut in the council tax discount on second homes.
