The Daventry May Day Memories Group said it is very sorry to hear of the death of Dawn James (nee Goddard) who was crowned the May Queen of Daventry in May 1957.
She is shown in the picture with her attendants Pauline Rogers, Janet Weaver, Judith Briggs, Frank Rockingham, Carol Beckett, Mary O’Donaghue, Elizabeth Sowerby, Linda Hancock, and David Hardy.
A spokesman for the group said: “Cynthia, Dawn’s sister was the first girl to be crowned May Queen in the Coronation year 1953.
“As far as we know Dawn is the first May Queen to die from the Dodson/Abbey School days.”
Dawn’s funeral will take place at Holy Cross Church on Monday June 15 at 2.30pm.
