MONEY raised from the annual Santa’s sleigh collection has benefited 10 local good causes.
Throughout December Father Christmas and his helpers were out on the streets of the Daventry area collecting money, courtesy of Danetre Rotary Club. This year the total raised was £8,663.
Bob Snedker, of the rotary club, said: “Thank you to the folk of Daventry and all of the villagers we visited, for their generous giving.
“We also want to thank Daventry District Council for the wonderful donation which enabled us to replace our worn out Santa suits and to carry out necessary maintenance to the sleighs. The gift also covered the expenses and meant that all of the money given by the local community will be spent on the local community.
“We especially want to thank the reindeer (tractor) drivers Ian Clarke, David Noden, Tim Wilson, Matt Daynes and Simon Shepherd who manoeuvred their sleighs in impossibly tight situations without incident.
“Finally could we please thank Ian Clarke of R&D Clarke Engineering and Andrew Cowley of Browns for lending us the tractors free of charge.”
The money will go to Danetre Rotary Club, Daventry Rotary Club, Daventry’s Citizens Advice Bureau, young people’s counselling service Time2Talk, Preston Capes Cricket Club, the scouts, Braunston Memorial Hall, Green Health, the Daventry Dolphins swimming club, Children Come First, Tom’s Trust and Contact.
A spokesman for Citizens’ Advice said: “Thank you to everyone who donated to the collection, and to the volunteers who went out with Santa and the sleigh.”
