The third annual festival of art, theatre and dancing returns to Daventry for a fortnight in July thanks to a local housing provider.
The Daventry Arts Festival, previously organised by the town’s business partnership, looked under threat this year following the partnership’s closure in March. However previous sponsor of the festival, Daventry and District Housing, stepped in to organise the family event.
This year the festival will take place at various locations between Friday, July 5 and Sunday, July 21.
In the past the festival has been a chance for local people to showcase and enjoy each other’s talents and art and has drawn in many visitors from outside the town.
Last year’s festival had more than 30 community events including street entertainment, live bands, traditional playground games, an outdoor film festival and a parade. Community development officer at DDH, Sarah Sims, said: “It would have been such a shame to see the arts festival disappear. This event really brings together the community and celebrates the local cultural diversity.
“The festival provides the chance for local people to showcase the tremendous talents in the area and gives families many hours of enjoyment.
“We are working closely with our partner organisations who are committed to support the festival.”
Attractions lined up this year so far include performances from a local theatre, the summer samba, Daventry youth day performances, art workshops and more.
Ms Sims added: “It promises to be a fantastic couple of weeks and we hope the festival can go from strength to strength in the coming years.”
Any group or individual interested in being involved, in the festival (whether it’s putting on a performance, having a stall or being a volunteer) can contact Ms Sims on 01327 707500.
