A PARISH councillor for Weedon Bec has said she is worried about the future of the village’s petrol station if plans for a Tesco Express get given the go-ahead.
The store is planned for the site of The Globe Hotel in the village near to the A45/A5 crossroads.
The proposal for the store has already been severely criticised by several local shopkeepers who say they could be forced out of business if this happens.
At a meeting held on Thursday last week, it was decided by the planning committee of Weedon Bec Parish Council to object to the plans.
The committee’s chairman Carolyn Matthews said: “I imagine that if this application goes ahead, they would be competing with Budgens and this could force them out of business.
“If they were to go then there would not be a petrol station in the village.
“There were quite a few people at the meeting and there is no one in the village I have heard who wants this to go ahead.
“We are also worried that might force other shops in the village to close.”
