The baby was an only child. She lived at the privately rented address with her mum, whose name had not been released at the time of going to press, and two pet dogs.

At the time of the horrific attack on Friday evening she was in the care of her grandmother, who had travelled from Northampton to baby sit.

According to the family member’s Facebook post, the grandmother ‘was only baby sitting for half an hour’ when the tragedy occurred.

Police were called to the three-bedroom house at about 10.30pm following reports that a baby was being attacked by a dog.

Officers and paramedics who attended the incident tried to resuscitate the baby, but she was confirmed dead at Northampton General Hospital.

At the time of going to press yesterday, Wednesday, Northamptonshire Police had still not named the baby victim, her mother or her grandmother at the family’s request.

The force’s family liaison officers are continuing to work with the family, who are quoted as being ‘absolutely devastated’.

Sympathy has been expressed in the aftermath of the horrific dog attack which saw a six-month-old baby girl killed at her home in Morning Star Road, Daventry.
