Indoor tip plans finally binned

PLANS to open an indoor tip just yards from a housing estate have been scuppered once and for all thanks to a neighbouring business.

In December last year Daventry District Council turned down an application from SITA UK to turn unit six on Sopwith Way in Daventry into a waste transfer centre where rubbish from homes and businesses could be unloaded, sorted and crushed.

The plans had been fiercely fought by residents and businesses on the Timken Estate who feared the waste centre would bring noise, pollution, smell and vermin to the area.

SITA had said it was considering an appeal, but last week Multi Labels, which already operates at the unit next door, announced it has taken a 10-year lease on the premises.
