DAVENTRY District Council (DDC) has said it is ‘exploring options’ after it was announced that weekly bin collections could return in England.
Communities secretary Eric Pickles said last week that the Government will make £250 million available to councils to help restore weekly collections.
He added the cash will only be available to councils which guarantee weekly collections for five years and demonstrate improvements in recycling and procurement are eligible.
Earlier this year DDC signed a new contract with Enterprise Managed Services and Northampton Borough Council to take care of the district’s fortnightly collections.
DDC director Simon Bovey said: “The district has continued to achieve high recycling rates nationally.
“We are studying Mr Pickles’ announcement with interest to see what options exist for the future. Any consideration of changes to the current collection system would be made with our partners.”
