Pupils suspended for abusing teachers

MORE than 2,500 pupils were suspended from schools across the county last year for attacking or verbally abusing their teachers and classmates.

Data released by The Department of Education shows that in Northamptonshire’s secondary schools a total of more than 4,500 schoolchildren were suspended during 2009-10.

A total of 120 pupils were permanently expelled from school, including six secondary schoolchildren who assaulted a teacher.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire County Council said the authority is “determined to continue working with schools” to bring the number of suspensions and expulsions down.
