A NEW college will be built in Daventry by 2013 after plans for the multi-million pound project were given the go-ahead this week.
The University Technical College (UTC) will cater for up to 600 students and offer 14 to 19-year-olds the chance to take up full-time, technically orientated courses.
The college is one of only 13 in the country to be given the green light after the Department for Education confirmed Daventry as a successful bidder on Monday.
It will be based off Ashby Road and forms part of the new 2040 masterplan for the town which was unveiled this week. The plan is to eventually rename the college as the ‘University of Daventry’.
Daventry MP Chris Heaton-Harris told the Gusher: “This is huge news for the town. I’m delighted we’ve got through the gate and really excited because this will provide an extra element to our education in the town which has been missing.”
