A WARTIME fire engine proved a big hit at Daventry’s library on Saturday.

The 1941 ATV Austin was brought up from Weedon and put on display outside the library on North Street.

The event, which also featured various firefighting equipment, was organised by the Friends of Daventry Library to coincide with one of their regular meetings.

Sharon Ford, a supervisor at the library, said: “Children seemed to enjoy looking inside the fire engine and I heard the bell ringing a few times. It was nice for people to see how fire engines used to look.

“We also had a few people in costume but the kids were most interested in the fire engine.”
