A Daventry mother and daughter have teamed up for a year of fundraising in aid of two cancer charities.

Rebecca Johnson and daughter, Kyra, eight, have so far raised £1,600 which has been split between Cancer Research UK and Abbie’s Army, a charity set up to fight brain cancer in children.

The pair, who raised the funds through a number of online dog shows, are now turning their attention to a girls’ night which will be held at their home on the Grange estate on Friday, December 6 from 7pm.

Mrs Johnson said: “I have lost a number of relatives and friends to cancer including my grandfather who died when Kira was two and they were very close. I also knew Abbie and her family.

“I thought we could either let it upset us all or we could do something.

“We have done Race For Life before but we wanted to do something a little bit different.”

She was also full of praise for her daughter who has helped with the efforts.

Mrs Johnson said: “She was coming up with lots of different ideas which were very ambitious. I am obviously very biased but I can not think of any other child like her. She is so determined to help others.

“All of us in the family are incredibly proud.”
