Driver died in A14 crash

A DRIVER died in a four-car crash near the Catthorpe interchange on Thursday, July 26.

The crash happened at approximately 4.55pm on the A14 westbound, about a mile prior to the Catthorpe interchange.

The collision involved four vehicles – two of which were heavy goods vehicles. The driver of one of the HGVs, a 51 year old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tailbacks of about four miles were caused to westbound traffic. The Highways Agency assisted Northamptonshire Police with distributing water and checking on the welfare of people in the queue of traffic. Tesco provided a large quantity of water to the scene.

Police are not in a position to name the driver who sustained fatal injuries until a formal identification has taken place.
