A £1,240 donation to the Daventry Townswomen’s Guild will ease the pressure of their fundraising next year.

The Guild, which has been running for 63 years, received the cash from Northamptonshire County Cllr Chris Long’s Empowerment Fund which will go towards the Guild’s running costs in 2013.

Guild Chairperson Sheila Baker said: “The Guild is not just a social club, it offers support and friendship to people in Daventry.

“We have all kinds of speakers visit us throughout the year and it is nice to know we can continue next year without the worry of where the money for those speakers is coming from.”

Cllr Long, who is permitted to give out £6,000 in his electoral division, said he was happy to donate to the Guild as well as DACT and Every Child Matters, to name a few.

He said: “They are a group who do so much good, they provide a facility for people to come together and enjoy each other’s company. It’s a social lifeline and they do a lot for the community.”
